Hungary-based no-frills airline Wizz Air is to fly directly from Budapest to Dubai and to Baku, Azeribaian
Wizz Air will launch four flights (A320 aircraft) to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) starting 28 October 2013.
Abrán said the flights will leave for the Dubai World Central Airport Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, not only from Budapest, but also from Bucharest (Romania), Sofia (Bulgaria) and Kiev (Ukraine). The carrier expects 50,000 passengers and an over 80% load factor on this route. Abrán also pointed out that Hungarians must obtain visa before travelling to Dubai.
He underlined that Wizz Air will be among the first airlines to fly to Dubai World Central Airport and that turnaround time is estimated at 35 minutes, which means the aircraft will be able to make another tour in Europe after returning.
Wizzair have anounced a new route as part of the ever expanding network in the CIS. They will link Budapest with Baku in the Oil rich (but hard to visit) state of Azerbaijan. From June 17th the route will operate twice weekly.
Baku is a very expensive place to fly to. However the entry requirements for Azerbaijan are very very tough. It costs around 80euros for a visa and letters of invitation are needed etc. I guess there will be some demand and Wizzair can charge relatively high fares and still undercut some of the legacy carriers from Central Europe.
